TWO WITNESSES

The first 1,260 days as we saw in Revelation chapter 12 was Jesus' ministry to the woman Israel.
In the latter days two witnesses will prophesy for 1,260 days to the woman Israel.
.

 Rev 11:1
And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.
.
This could be speaking of an actual temple built on the Temple Mount or it could be symbolic and not a physical temple because the people are measured also. The symbolic or measuring, or taking account of, the Jewish people that still worship the God of Israel. Perhaps a measuring of those 144,000 that will be sealed by God to be saved.

Rev 11:2
But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty two months.

The outer court represents those that do not worship the true God in Jerusalem.  Islam does not worship the God who gave the Word to His people. The Muslims believe God gave man a new word, written in the koran. A different Word of God means it was given by a different god, or is simply man made.    These unbelievers (gentiles/heathens) will tread Jerusalem under foot for 42 months.

Using a Hebrew calendar 42 months or moons = 1239 days

The meaning behind Jerusalem being "tread under foot" usually means that it has been given over to a foreign rule.  In this case it is partial (the courts without), which to me means a divided Jerusalem.

Rev 11:3
And I will give [power] unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred [and] threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. :4 These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.

Two witnesses

From  the third day of Passover (resurrection of Jesus),  of 17th of Nisan,  in any year takes you to the 7th of Tishri, 1260 days later.  3 1/2 days after that will be the resurrection of the 2 witnesses on the Day of Atonement 10th of Tishri.

Note: There is only one resurrection of the dead at the end of this age and this is at the same time that these two are resurrected.  It is at the end of the 6th seal which is when the 7th trump sounds.

It seems that the 1239 days of the beast trampling the city of Jerusalem will begin some time after the 1260 days of the two witnesses begin.  Since the city will be trampled by the beast until the return of Christ, with all His saints with Him touches His foot down on the Mount of Olives.  This gives ample time for the two witnesses to warn the Jews of what is about to come upon them if they don't repent and recognize that Jesus was, and is, their awaited Messiah.  But as you can see it does not leave 7 years nor even 3 1/2 years of time between the rapture and His return to the Mount of Olives for the battle of Armageddon.   The resurrection of the dead and rapture of the living is always shown to be after the fall of the Harlot city, Babylon.  See Rev 14 and Rev 19, where the wedding takes place after the fall of the Harlot city.

The key to understanding a little about the two witnesses is found in Zechariah 4:2-14. The Lord shows him a vision of two olive trees/branches. They are the vessels that the oil flows from into a candlestick standing between them. In that vision the candlestick is a Word from the Lord given to Zerubbabel concerning the building of the Temple, after the building of it had stopped.

    It seems that the two Olive trees are the two prophets: Zechariah and Haggia who prophiced to the king
Zec 4:14 Then said he, These [are] the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.
These prophets share the same candlestick/word.

    The word translated as STAND can mean,  become servant of, to cause to stand firm,  to be appointed, ordained, established, to be of a steadfast mind of quality, one who does not hesitate, does not waiver.

These two witnesses/prophets stand firm in the Lord of the whole earth.

   Zechariah was to tell King Zerubbabel this message/prophecy from God; This [is] the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, "Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the LORD of hosts".
All of Zerubbabel's might and power is not going to get the job done. Only through the Spirit of the Lord will it be accomplished. God is reminding them through this prophecy that they have a divine resource.

Revelation

Rev 11:4 These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.

     In Revelations there are two witnesses also but they are each given a candlestick/word.

       In these end times there will be two words/messages given to two prophets that stand firm in the Lord. Although I believe the messages will be the same in that they declare the truth to open the eyes of the Jews so that they might know Him, acknowledge Jesus as Messiah, receive the Holy Spirit and be sealed by God forever.

    I don't believe that these two olive tress need be someone from the past, as Haggia and Zechariah were not of the past, but were two men that stood firm in the Lord and were anointed in the Holy Spirit and through that did the will of God. "They are my two anointed ones", meaning my two prophets and they will witness.

    They will do the signs of a prophet.  Out of their mouths will come fire to consume their enemies. I believe this means the truth (a holy fire of the Holy Spirit) they speak will either save, or condemn the listener to the lake of fire. They can stop the rain as Ezekiel did. Turn water into blood as Moses did. In other words they will be working through the power of the Holy Spirit. But ultimately they will be killed for the testimony they speak against the beast  and will be brought back to life after 3 1/2 days and then raptured, along with all the saints that have died in Christ and living believers.

If we were to look at Moses in this same symbolism it would be;
one olive tree=Moses
one candlestick=word to  Pharaoh, "let my people go".

In Zechariah there were;
two olive trees=Zachariah and Haggi
shared candlestick= One message; Build My Temple "Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the LORD of hosts".

In Revelation we have;
two olive trees=two prophets/witnesses
two candlesticks=two messages.

Perhaps these two messages will be like the previous messages, one to the beast to let His people out of the bondage that they will be in at that time,  and the other refers, not to the building of a stone temple, but to the building of the true Temple of God; by believing in Jesus Messiah and becoming part of the Temple of God made up of believers.
